Civil War

Well we do live in the South . . . and so you must experience the history that surrounds you. We decided to expose the kids to a Civil War re-enactment. We explained the very basics of the war to them. It was a huge event. There was a large area to peruse that was the civilian camp.
It was fun watching all of the civilians go about their daily business of cooking, cleaning, whittling, talking etc. as everyone walked by to look. They actually slept there at night and cooked all their meals over open flame, so everything was very authentic.

All the troops were camped in the woods close to the battlefield, and so there was a huge soldier camp to walk through as well.
It was all interesting to see but I would prefer a much smaller gathering next time. There were so many people that it was hard to see the battle.
But, it was a great way to make a history lesson really come alive for the kids.
